2020 Presidential Candidate, Bernie Sanders, has undergone a heart procedure to have two stents inserted to deal with arterial blockage after having chest discomfort during a campaign event on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Senior adviser to Sanders’ campaign Jeff Weaver released a statement announcing that the presidential hopeful will be spending the next few days recovering from the operation and that planned campaign events will be cancelled until further notice.

The announcement of the procedure comes just days after his campaign announced that Sanders’ had received $23.5 million in funding during the third quarter of fundraising, the largest announced by any Democratic candidate so far.

With Sanders being the oldest in the current Democratic field at 78 years old, this latest procedure raises questions about potential future health as primary season rolls around. This isn’t the first ailment Sanders has experienced in recent years.

Sanders has previously had to deal with hernias and gout prior to his 2016 presidential run, despite the ailments those close to the politician assert that he is in good health. During his 2016 run, Sanders released a letter from his longtime and congressional physician Brian Monahan, which stated he had no history of heart disease as well as described Sanders as being in “very good health.”

Regardless, the news has lead to people inquiring about his medical records, which is unsurprising considering if he were to be elected he would be 79 by the time of his inauguration. However, Sanders has previously assured his constituents that he would eventually release those records, but with this new development it is unsure whether or not they will continue to show his “good health” status.
